Supporting our community in cold months

As the seasons change and the temperatures drop, it's a meaningful time to come together and support those in need across Hennepin County. Whether you're looking to donate, volunteer or simply spread kindness, there are several ways you can make a difference this winter.

Support the Hennepin County Security Division’s Winter Gear Drive

The Hennepin County Security Division is also collecting cold weather essentials to distribute to residents in need. You can help by purchasing items from their Amazon Wishlist through December 31.If you work at the Government Center, you can also drop off new winter gear directly at the Security office.

Once the Security Division’s drive wraps up, donations will be distributed to:

  • The Patrol Unit

  • Minneapolis Central Library

  • The Hennepin County Government Center

  • Other locations where officers regularly connect with community members in need

Donate to the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Cold Weather Drive

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is collecting cold weather gear to help individuals experiencing homelessness stay warm this winter. You can contribute by donating new or gently used items such as coats, gloves, hats, hand warmers, scarves and more.

Donations are accepted through February 28 and can be dropped off at various HCSO and Hennepin County Library locations.  If you’d rather mail your donation, you can send items directly to the Sheriff’s Administration Office at 350 S 5th St, Minneapolis, MN 55415.

Donated items from this drive will be distributed:

  • Through the HCSO Community Engagement Team

  • To individuals visiting the Homeless Outreach Center at the Minneapolis Central Library and individuals leaving jail or court hearings without adequate clothing

  • Anyone in need who HCSO or Hennepin County Library employees encounter
