Spotlight: Seamless recording for all residents

The Virtual Recorder Project Team in Land Information and Tax Services has exemplified the county core value of Innovation when creating and implementing their Virtual Recorder service, an online way for residents to record real property documents (mortgages, deeds, releases, and satisfactions) and request certified copies. This service now provides greater accessibility to the recording process and removes barriers for residents interacting with the department.

Our county was the among the first to offer this service to residents virtually, instead of by mail or in person at the Recorder’s Office at the Government Center.

“The Hennepin County Recorder’s Office has always been a leader throughout the region in embracing technology to solve technological challenges and thinking outside the box on how we provide services,” said Chief Deputy Recorder Wendell Hiller.

Electronic recording creates efficiencies by removing delays of sending documents through the mail, more quickly resolving document rejects, as well as the need for residents to conduct this business in person. “If customers aren’t driving to see us, it helps us advance the county’s 2050 Climate Action Plan by reducing carbon emissions,” noted County Recorder and Registrar of Titles Amber Bougie.

The Spotlight Series highlights Hennepin County employees and your commitment to serving residents and demonstrating our countywide mission, vision and values.
