Congressional Record from Congress and new leader appointed

On Tuesday, January 28, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar spoke before the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners meeting to present a Congressional Record recognizing the county's work on effectively ending veteran homelessness in Hennepin County. Board Chair Irene Fernando accepted the Congressional Record on the board's behalf.
Rep. Omar represents Minnesota's 5th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, which includes Minneapolis and surrounding suburbs.
Hennepin County has systems in place for making homelessness among veterans rare, brief and nonrecurring. In October 2024, Hennepin County announced this major milestone during a press conference at the Hennepin County Government Center attended by Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota Peggy Flanagan, U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar, U.S. Senator Tina Smith, along with veterans, Hennepin County Commissioners, leaders, employees and partners.Learn more: Hennepin County effectively ends veteran homelessness
Liz Young appointed Director of Intergovernmental Relations
The Hennepin County Board of Commissioners confirmed the appointment of Liz Young as director of Intergovernmental Relations, having previously served as interim director for this department, at its January 28, 2025, meeting.
Intergovernmental Relations coordinates the development of the county's legislative proposals and actively pursues the legislative platform approved by the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners.
Ms. Young has extensive experience in intergovernmental relations having served in a congressional office as a district director and at the state senate for several years. Liz joined Hennepin County’s Intergovernmental Relations team 2 years ago, primarily focusing on Health and Human Services issues.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and French from Syracuse University.
