Celebrating Black History Month

Last week, the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners proclaimed February as Black History Month. This month provides an opportunity to reflect on, celebrate the achievements of, and recognize the contributions of Black Americans that have shaped our country.

The county also adopted this year’s national theme for Black History Month, “African Americans and Labor,” which highlights the diverse roles Black individuals have played in various forms of labor, both skilled and unskilled, free and unfree. The theme underscores how labor intersects with the collective experiences of Black people throughout history.

To honor this milestone, the Lowry Avenue bridge was illuminated red, black, green, and gold on February 1 in recognition of Black History Month.

As we observe Black History Month, employees are encouraged to participate in events and initiatives that foster learning and inclusivity.

Check the HC Connect events calendar throughout the month for opportunities to learn and celebrate.
