Celebrate Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month

On May 6, the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners issued a proclamation recognizing May as Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month. The national observance recognizes the contributions and influence of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders to the history, culture and achievements of the United States.

Hennepin County employees are invited to celebrate the diverse heritage of AANHPI people throughout the month by attending an interactive storytelling event and by viewing the Hennepin gallery display at the Government Center. Find more information about these opportunities below.

Attend a Hennepin County event

Join Project Diversity: Asian Heritage American Committee and Asian Connections Employee Resource Group (ACERG) on Thursday, May 8 from noon to 1 p.m. for a virtual storytelling event in celebration of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in May. This ‘open mic’ event offers a chance for Hennepin County employees to share their immigration or resettlement stories. The story does not need to be your own; it could be your family’s journey or ancestral lineage. All are welcome to listen, support, and celebrate diversity. Those interested in attending are encouraged to sign up by contacting Neng Vang at neng.vang@hennepin.us and Pa Ja Yang at pjyang@hclib.org.
