Volunteers Power Bike Giveaway for Foster Youth

In July 2025, Hennepin County foster youth experienced a day of joy and independence thanks to the incredible efforts of volunteers who made a special bike giveaway possible. Fifty-five children received bikes and helmets, but behind that excitement was a team of dedicated people who gave their time and energy to make it happen.

The event was driven by Computershare volunteers, who contributed an impressive 73 hours of service. Their work began long before the celebration day, ordering bikes, assembling them over a three day period, and collecting helmets donated by their colleagues. Each bike took about an hour to build, and on the day of the event, six volunteers spent three hours fitting helmets, adjusting bikes, and ensuring every child left ready to ride.

Families arrived at Computershare’s site to find a warm, welcoming atmosphere complete with cookies and laughter. After checking in, foster youth were guided by volunteers to pick out their bike and helmet, get properly fitted, and experience the thrill of having something special to call their own.

For foster families, the day was more than a giveaway—it was a celebration of care and community. One foster parent shared, “Your gifts help me give what I was unable to provide. From my heart—thank you.”

To a child, a bike means freedom, friendship, and fun. For children in foster care, it’s also a symbol of hope. Thanks to the volunteers’ hard work and generosity, these kids now have the chance to experience those simple joys. Plans are already underway to host the event earlier in 2026, continuing the tradition of bringing happiness and connection to foster families.
